What Is a Bike Fit (And Why You Probably Need One)?

A professional bike fit is more than adjusting your saddle height. It's a detailed, individualised process that aligns your bike to your body, riding style, and goals. Most cyclists rely on trial and error or copy a friend’s setup—leading to common issues like knee pain, back tightness, numb hands or feet, and saddle discomfort. With thousands of hours spent in the saddle, even small misalignments can add up to big problems. A proper fit helps reduce injury risk and makes every ride smoother, more powerful, and more enjoyable.

We offer four bike fit types:
1. Chiropractic Bike Fit – for cyclists with pain or previous injuries. Our most advanced bike fit.
2. Performance Bike Fit – for riders chasing speed, power, and efficiency.
3. Essential Bike Fit - perfect for beginner cyclist or for cyclists who wants an essential tune-up.
4. Virtual Bike Fit - great alternative for time-poor cyclists who wants a basic bike fit from the comfort of their home.

What to expect for your first bike fit

Step 1: Making an appointment

You can book your appointment online via our website, or call the clinic if you have questions prior. If you cannot find an appointment time that suits you, please call us or send us an email. We should be able to get you in within 48 hours.

Step 2: Your first appointment

You will start by checking in and filling out an intake form. This will provide us with a clearer picture of your health history, cycling ambition and goals. We will then go through a detailed history where we will be asking questions about your relevant medical history, past injuries, and going through your cycling goals

Step 3: Examination

The examination will entail a series of small assessments from checking your posture, feeling for pressure and swelling, analysing joint motion, as well as orthopaedic and neurological testing.

Step 4: The bike fitting process

Your bike will be set up on our indoor trainer. The fitting process will take between 1 and 1.5 hours. You will be pedaling at a low-moderate intensity, and you will be getting on and off the bike a few times. We recommend you bring a snack or energy drink to keep your energy levels up during the whole process.

Step 5: Your bike fit

We will start by looking at your initial set up which will give us an indications on what we need to change to optimise your position. We will then make changes to your saddle position, including fore/aft, saddle height and saddle angle. We will optimise your cleat position, before moving onto your reach and stack. We will also optimise your position to be ergonomic and aerodynamic.

Step 6: Measurements

At the end of the fitting process, we will record the measurements of your new bike set up, which we will send to you after the session. These are great to have as a reference if you want to make changes to your bike and/or for your future new bike.

Step 7: Summary and payment

The last thing we will do is to summarise what we have changed and discussed. This is a great time for any additional questions. Payment and private health claims (if applicable) can be done on our eftpos machine in the clinic. You will receive an email after with your measurements and any recommendations we might have.

Step 8: Follow up and feedback

A bike fit is a dynamic process which means that you might need small adjustments done after a few weeks/months of riding. We encourage you to reach out if you need to make any changes to your set up or if you have purchased new equipment. Our Chiropractic Performance and Performance bike fits comes with a complimentary follow up which is valid for 3 months. You can book this in online for a time that suits you.
