Many of us are very good at following a structured training program, we all understand that there’s a plan and that with you stick to it, and achieve 85% of your training in the lead up to an event, you’ll be able to hit your goals.

In order to achieve this number and hit your goals, it’s important that you take care not only to do your structured training sessions but build in recovery and treatments into your broader program to hit your targets off the bike.

Why structure treatments?

For many riders, treatments are only sought once an injury or an issue arises. By being proactive, and managing issues when they’re small it means less time off the bike, and more time training towards your goal.

A few simple planned treatments over the course of a coaching program can be the difference between managing an injury and forced time away from riding.

How many treatments to schedule?

This is a question we get from time to time - it’s important to understand your current training load, existing injuries, and what the increase will be. It’s always important to take baby steps when increasing your training load to avoid injury, but as a rule of thumb, we suggest one to two sessions a month as part of your regular training. Based on how you’re feeling, you can either move this up or down as needed.

When to schedule treatments

If you know your training program for the next 2-3 months, we’d suggest scheduling these around after you’ve done your training for that particular day. Sometimes coaches suggest scheduling these on recovery, but we firmly believe that you should do as little as possible on the days off the bike, to maximize growth.
